John Varrone
Director of Global Security, Morgan Stanley
Mr. Varrone is currently working for the Financial Services firm, Morgan Stanley, which he joined in September of 2005 as the Executive Director of Global Security. In this role, he has direct responsibility for the safety and security of all staff and facilities worldwide. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Varrone worked for Credit Suisse First Boston, where he served as the Global Head of Security.
Prior to joining the private sector, Mr. Varrone spent 26 years in federal law enforcement with the Department of the Treasury, United States Customs Service. In July 2000, Mr. Varrone was appointed Assistant Commissioner, Office of Investigations by Customs Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly. In May 1999, Mr. Varrone was promoted to the position of Executive Director for Domestic Operations of the East Coast of the United States. This newly established position involved the responsibilities of managing, directing and ensuring coordination of the interdiction and investigative activities of Customs’ seven East Coast and Caribbean Special Agent in Charge Offices. In 1997, Mr. Varrone was appointed Special Agent in Charge, New York. In 1982, Mr. Varrone was promoted to the position of special agent.
Mr. Varrone began his law enforcement career as a Customs Patrol Officer in the New York Office of Enforcement where he worked on a variety of airport, seaport and tactical assignments.
Mr. Varrone received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In addition, he completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
